I just had my first track day through NESBA. Great people and organization. They put in you classes so your not out there with the advanced riders. They have one on one control riders that help you with the proper race lines and teach you proper form. It was an awesometime. Once you do it you'll be hooked and love it. I'm already looking for a trackbike. My 929 is two perdy to possibly wreck at the track.

+1 Triax, I would have to get a bike that was specifically for track use if i was going to race.

Carry a stick, and hit them harder than they hit you.

Also, strike the first blow.

Went to the trackday here in Nashvegas on Oct, 4 and 5, was a great time..several riders did go down, but no wrecks into each other. They tell you to keep at least 6-10 feet between you and other riders. Turn 3 is a toughie, more than one rider slid out on that one, and turn 5 coming off the chicane also claimed more than one rider, two high sides, both riders okay..can't say the same for their bikes. One was an RC51..that will take some cash to make it back to ride able, and the other was a ninja 250, that was being ridden by the guy setting up suspensions for people. That little ninja actually kept up in the intermediate class, course, he hardly ever had to get outta the throttle. Friend of mine took his Ktm 690, and actually turned some pretty good lap times..wasn't as fast as say the 600 gsxr's, or any other race bikes, but, he was no slouch, finishing about 2-3 seconds off the pace on each lap, but still, for a motard, not bad. He could take them in the corners, but on the straights, with a top speed of about 115 mph, he just lost too much ground.
Good lap times at that track for the intermediate class was around 1;12 or so..most riders were running around 1:15 pretty consistently..I didn't ride, didn't want to scratch up my purdy bike..but, will have a 954 or something similar by next track day in the spring.

I don't think that there are any more scheduled track days for this year, but, you can easily find out, grab an issue of Cycle rider, usually in the back, there is a listing of tracks, locations and what schools are planning trackdays..I"ll post Nashville's next track day dates later on today. Don't have a current issue, but was gonna go pick one up at cycle gear.
Btw, if your really interested in the happenings around Nashville for sport bike riders, I've found that hitting the cycle gear off myatt drive is a good start for good info. The people there are knowledgeable, and are track hounds.
Right now, the wife and I are planning our next september vacation around a track day in texas. We have friends in Austin that are track nuts, so they are keeping us posted. By then, I hope to be able to ride in the intermediate or advanced classes.
Full leathers are required, boots, gloves, etc. You also have to do some work on your bike, drain anti-freeze and replace with plain water, in the advanced category, you have to do alot of drilling, so that you can wire various bolts to the bike. You black out headlights, and tail lights, basically, anything that can break off and cause a mess on the track has to be removed..mirrors for instance also must come off. I'll post up some stuff tonite..you live close enough pit, we oughta get together for a ride sometime, we spend alot of time riding in east tennessee..not far from here, Old Hickory, where I live. We have one route we take thats roughly 250 miles or so, that is all backroads, and has some outstanding pavement, and very little traffic.

Sorry pit, its not cycle rider, but cycle world. They list the track days for most areas, and the schools that run them. The track day here in Nashville was 160 bucks before the track day, and 200, if you registered the same day. They have great facilities, and the track is a blast. I hadn't had the opportunity to check future times yet...gonna see if they ahve it posted on the net...get back to you soon on it. btw, since your close, come ride with us, we do ride at our own pace, people do wait up for the slower riders, and usually, its ride hard and fast for a bit, then stop, smoke, eat, drink, whatever for a few minutes, then back at it again. My wife rides with us, and the experience has helped her greatly. She is actually starting to lose her "chicken strip". In fact, hers is less than mine is at the moment..but I'm gonna fix that..new tires, they are no scrubbed in, so, the next ride, I'll be pushing it alot harder..I want to see the rubber ball up on the edge..thats the mark of a lean it over deep and scrap a knee..or...elbow rider.

Not to mention that its fun as shit when you feel G-forces in the turn, and the bike holds the road like its on a rail.
