Wheelie ??'s
So I get the impression that 929 and 1badF*I and ride decent wheelies. I can't. According to friends that can hit the BP they say I'm really close, gotta bring it up another 6-8".
So my questions aren't about doing wheelies but rather what kind of wheelies do you do? Sit downs? Standups? High chairs? Staggered? Spreaders?
In the thread about what kind of riding do you do it got me to thinking. The more I ride the more I seem to be slowing down (which is a good/safe thing). But I gotta admit the reason I have the bike that I do (or for that matter the reason that any of us have a sportbike) is for the thrill. Otherwise we'd have a Harley
So the more I slow down the more I'm gonna want to find some alternative thrill (wheelies/stoppies). And fast wheelies seem really unsafe to me.
What speed do you guys usually lift the front end? How fast are you usually going when you are at BP?

Well I can honestly say I donot ride wheelies. I tried on my first street bike and wrecked the second try. Ever since then I guess Im scared to yank er up. I can, I know, cause I can ride a wheelie on our old dirtbike. Just mental I guess, plus I dont want my bike F***ed up!!!

I usually hit em in second gear by clutchin it up at about 50 to 55. Now, this is what works best for me. It might not work well with others. But, I feel most comfortable hitting the BP in a stand-up. When I am sitting down it just feel like I'm going to slide off the back end. But, once again that's what works for me, it may not work for others.

I feel more comfortable with sit downs. Standups make me nervous. I'll usually clutch it up in second at about 20mph and cause I don't hit the BP I'm chasing the wheelie to about 70mph.

See I'm the opposite of that. Slow wheelies for me make me uncomfortable because you dont have your momentum to keep you from swaying side to side as much. It took me quite a while to become familiar with the balance point. But, I think your trying to learn it the right way by not pushing yourself too hard. Btw Sensei, where are you sitting on the seat? Maybe your up too far forward? Or have you expiremented with this before?

Yeah, I've started sliding my ass back more. It's crazy the feel you can get for the bike. I like to pull the front end when the tank is full of gas. To me if feels like it comes up a little slower which gives me the illusion of being more in control.

If your not hitting it till 70, then your doing it wrong. I usually pull my bike up at about 30mph in second with the clutch. By the time I hit about 50 I am at balance point. I can hold it there for quite a while, but I always end up speeding up as I get tired just to keep it up.

I do my 1st gear roll on's sitting and my second gears standing. I hope that with my gearing and PcIII that I can roll them on in second sitting. All my wheelies are slighlty cocked to the right and I look to the left.
I would gear your bike in the back to help with the low mph wheelies.
I am hoping to get them up from around 10mph in first with my new gearing and keep them long under the 30mph range.
I have popped it up numerous times in first with the clutch and played the brake, but its hard to keep the bike at that point with the small amount of torque my girly bike makes. Gearing should help this though.
Also try clamping your rear left peg so it cant fold and wear boots, this is what my buddies do. They ride them out real far on there 1ks and 929s in second all off the throttle.

They are much easier standing, you can burp the throttle and bounce them up smooth.
