Are you kind of a big guy or no. If so burp the throttle a few a times in 2nd at low speed and bounce it up without the clutch. If your light drop the front with the brake while still giving it throttle and hit it hard. With that big monster RR you should not need the clutch. My buddy hits em in 2nd on his r1 at about 50 with just the throttle and he bounces a little and then its up, sitting or standing.

Really sounds like you need to slide back farther. Try them standing with your ass back. It will scare you for a while and they will be small. After a couple weeks tho' shit youll be wheeling all over town.

I ride both stand up and sit down. I prefer stand ups in first and sit downs in second but can do both styles in either gear.

Standing up is probably the hardest part to get used to. it freaks ya out at first because your so high off the ground (compared to sitting)and when the tire comes up you feel like your 10' off the ground. The main thing to remember is while trying to learn stand ups don't go for BP until you have practiced hundreds of times just getting the the front lifted 1/2 or 3/4 the way up. Once the feeling of awkwardness is gone then focus on BP.

Staggered is the most comfortable for me (w/locking the left passenger peg)

On my stand ups I do them in first gear at about 10-15 mph and ride them at BP around 45-50 mph. don't go much faster then that.

sit downs in first are at what ever speed I want. pull them up from any speed 10-40 mph can hit BP or just stay under if want to go fast.

2nd gear stand ups really don't care for em to much, to fast and floaty and don't want to go down.

2nd gear sit downs pull it up around 35-45 mph hit bp and hold it around 65 mph or stay under BP agian for fast ones up to 95-100 (sounds like an airplane landing when the tire touches the ground at that speed) Very rarely do those anymore.

But it doesn't matter if you learn in 1 week or 1 year you need to feel comfortable (as much as you can for what your doing) IM not lying when I say that to learn the stand ups I must of practiced 800 or better times over a few months before I even went for BP (I already could stand up on dirt bikes but the two are sooo different).

Now Balance point is the tricky part. You hit BP and it's easy "BULLSHIT" there's nothing easy about staying in BP until you get used to it. You need to hit Bp at the right momentum. To fast and your going over, to slow and your chasing it. once you hit BP the bike goes weightless (no more pull on the hadle bars) now throttle controll is key and rear brake coverage is essential. If everything goes right you hit BP without moving the throttle from the clutch up. once in there you adjust BP with slight throttle movement depending on road conditions and tapping ever so slightly the rear brake to maintian that position. Then it's up to you on how long you keep her up there..

A good way to practice is on a long stretch of road that goes uphill in a steady grade.

Bad Idea. power wheelies are to unpredictable more likely to flip over backwards. People can do em but not recommended.

I disagree, if you know your bike and learn them slowly you will not go over backwards. I power wheelie 1st and 2nd with my wife on the back. Only went over once on my ninja with the clutch and my old lady on the back.

If you are quick on the clutch and brake with a smooth throttle hand thats not an issue.

If you have to hammer your bike that hard to do a wheelie you are doing something wrong. Sportbikes powerwheelie very smoothly if your weight is back and you twist her back smooth.

I'm weighing in at a chubby 220lbs at 5'10". By this spring I'll be back down to 190-195 so I guess I'm not huge but I'm not small either.

Try using your weight and telling that thing what to do. It will make you stronger and you will feel in control. The only thing you can do is practice and that shit is scary, you can screw up a nice bike real fast. I just stay repetative and calm.

I was reading back to earlier in this thread and thought about the BP problem. Balance point is diff for everyone and every kind of wheelie. You can use your brake and your body weight to balance that bike at diff angles. I would say push your ass back and keep your arms tight, your wheelie dont have to be 11 or 12 o'clock to be balanced. use your weight to the back and you dont have to bring the wheel quite so high. Thats really why you see people standing it balances the bike out alot.

I've tried to do standups a few times. Everytime I do it I get chicken shit real fast.

When I started sitdowns it was the same deal but I slowly got used to it and was able to go higher and higher. Doesn't seem like I can get used to standups.

Is powering or bouncing and powering the bike up easier on clutches/sprockets/chains?

yes it way easier on your bike, but harder on you. Its really just confidence and strength that gives you. It allows you to feel like your taking it and its not taking you. Standups are real scary, I know but I would just ride around myself and practice moving alot.

Do you sit on the tank or stand up with no hands? Anything to loosen up. (not on the tank I dont expect that) but on the pegs. I can just begin to stand on seat without hands, cant extend tho'.

Sitting on the tank and standing without hands (on the pegs) isn't a problem.

I'm thinking you might want a crash cage bro. As much as I don't really care for custom paint jobs I'd hate to see you mess that thing up with all the coin you have in it.
