Default Great roads D/FW area?

I loathe straight or just barely curving roads. Personally I would rather ride a 1 mile stretch of pavement that has some really good hanging off turns, than ride a 30 mile "scenic motorcycle road".

Just went for a short ride on this one.

1. Highway 407 heading into Justin Texas from 35W south.
The first curve at the top of the pic is marked at 30 mph, has a great, pace friendly camber, and for a public road is very clean and sticky.

The second section circled is flat out a blast. Marked at 25-30mph, great series of quick esses and switchbacks and the elevation change throughout the section is approximately 70-100 feet vertical.

A great, well it's got a great reputation anyway, is Rock Hill Road. Just north of Denton, heading into Pilot Point.

It's kind of hard to find at first as Mapquest and Texas Motorcycle Roads pull up a poor map. Google earth is the best way to pull it up. Just make sure you take a left at the dead end/T section. The first time I rode it, I took a right which led me directly to 377. I thought, that can't be it. That was boring as ****.

The cops patrol this street on occasion, as more than once I have seen a group of teen to 20 year old guys, bike's engines now cooling as the cops
had them on the ground, helmets, gloves, scattered everywhere.

Definitely have to pick your spots and your times to have fun, which is a no brainer on any road.

Since it's a short ride, you'd be best off taking a spot ride down it first.

Check for cops or anything that may have happened overnight.

(Tree limbs, diesel fuel spills, rocks in the road...whatever)

Lots of fun, at the right time.

We were on 407 just today - we made the grand circle, so to speak. Started in Decatur, went down to FM 5 in Aledo via 730 - turns out it's under construction right now, give it about 2 months and it will be good again.

Went from there up 156 (boring) to 407, then ran it to 35 to Denton, then up to Gainesville, then back to Wise County on 51.

May do FM 4 next week (Possum Kingdom).

Hey velocity bmg: Saw your post on the other forum about the Decatur Honda shop - that's "my shop" - great bunch of folks. Tim (has a Repsol) is a great guy, I got my 954 from him.

That's your shop!

Cool.

Yeah, I met Tim, and you would have thought we grew up together.

Exchanged #'s and gonna do a ride soon.

You gotta a great shop there. Nice, friendly bunch of guys and seem to know their way around bikes very well. Did a good job in swapping out my tires for me. Very meticulous and nice bunch of guys.

Will definitely be doing business there again.

Yes...I do when Map quest or whatever gives inaccurate or poor maps.

Ok...another good road. South west of Fort Worth.

Haven't been down it in awhile but was good a few years ago, if the lake is not crowded.

Mostly slower to a few fast turns. Fun...smooth.

Hey, Tim and I, and some of his buddies are going riding tomorrow, (Sunday)...

I have a feeling this is gonna be fun.

We did FM 4 today - Decatur to Jacksboro, down FM 4 all the way to I-20. It would have been much better if we didn't go through about 14 kazillion rain showers and the road was wet. The last leg was dry (it's the best part anyway). Then back to Decatur via Weatherford - 163 miles.

Came around one corner (it's a 90 degree marked 15 mph, road was pretty dry at the time) but the rain had washed the entire lane with gravel and even had some standing water. Barely squeeked by with about 2 inches of pavement to spare!

Watch this corner if ya'll go down there - just south of Graford, two 90's marked 15 mph - - second one. May be better by tomorrow, though.

If you've never done FM 4 before, it's a blast when it's dry.

Best part IMHO is southbound from Palo Pinto to I-20.

Never have done FM-4...heard a lot of good things about it from Tye.

I'm just going to let Tim and is buds lead us, unless it gets boring, then we will go to some of my 2.0 mile long, twisties from hell and have timed laps, wagers or something.

Speaking of time...I gotta grab some zzz's ...
