Do any of you 54 owners have a Power Commander on your bike? I was looking into getting one and having it mapped to my Yosh exhaust but I'm curious if it's worth the 2-300 bucks I'm going to shell out. It's either that or a damper and neither are cheap. Thanks in advance.

Have a PC on my 954 with a Yosh, also. The PC increased HP a tad, but made throttle response much smoother.

Have the damper also, it made turns on crappy pavement much better.

Hey Randy can you tell me what brands (PC and Damper) you have? Also could you tell me who you went through and how difficult it was to install and all that? Is it worth the cost?

I got the Scott's damper used off of eBay from a guy that was parting out a 954, paid $280. Pretty easy to install, follow the directions exactly (use the loctite like they say) and it probably took me less than an hour.

The Dynojet Power Commander III-USB I got from SuperbikeSupply.com for $260 shipped (though looks like they've gone up, or I may have caught a sale). I put the box in the tail, had to take the right fairing off, the seat, and raise the tank to get to the injector plugs and to connect to battery. I downloaded a Yoshi map they had on the Dynojet website. Really smoothed out the throttle (does your 954 have the "gap/roughness" around 3K?). Install was probably around an hour also.

If I could only buy one of the items, I'd get the damper. It made a world of difference in my riding, I do trackdays and Sunday afternoon "backroad twisty" rides. It makes the front end so much more stable.

I would certainly buy both again, I'll never ride a bike without a damper and the PCIII is a great addition.

Awesome advice guys! Ol' boy before me dropped a tooth on the front, though I never rode it stock, it seems snappy as shit in the first 2 gears. I have noticed a bit of a lag in the 3k RPM range although I don't spend too much time there. I take it this is normal for this bike huh? I've never ridden the I before but have sat on them when I was looking for a bike and can see how they would be a lot more comfortable on the long hauls. The 54 is just a fun good looking bike, although sometime being in So Cal I can feel her get hotter than her other running mates quicker it seems. The newer bikes seem to run a bit cooler or maybe the 54 runs hotter, not sure. I think she was a good pick.

A great pick. My favorite bike of all the ones I've had, and she's number 21.

I had the 15 sprocket for a while, ended up going back to the 16 for top end.

I have a Sargent seat for really long hauls, use stock seat for trackdays and heavy twisties (can't slide very good on the Sargent seat, but I can do 400 miles no sweat while my buddies are butt-sore at 150).

Hey...I'm a new rider so help me out. Is 15 or 16 better for me? Would love to take this to the track, but haven't yet?

15 gives you a little more "uumph" on the low end and makes acceleration and especially wheelies a bit easier. 16 gives you the top end. For normal riding and a few trackdays, the 15 is fine. If you really start going to alot of trackdays you may want to go back to the 16 for the top end on those straightaways.

Your speedometer is also way off with the 15; get a Speedohealer. Mine was off around 10-12%.
