Default 1000f Questions

So I did a few quick searches and didnt find any matches. I just bought an 87 1000f. Its got a vance and hines exhaust and k&n pod filters. Running real rough at idle- 2500+ rpm. Im guess bigger pilot... never dug into a street bike before but well versed in dirtbikes. Any suggestions/ things to look for?

Also there is a rattle, sounds top end. Are these motors know for any specific issues that I should check first? Im going to check valve lash... I dont have a manual though (on the way) is anyones got some specs they could throw at me it would be great!

Thanks guys!

It might still have the stock jetting in it. I would check that to see if it solves the rough idle.

I don't know enough about that bike to tell you anything about the rattle.

Im sure its still the stock jetting. Im just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as what to run (or at least start off from)

As for the rattle, I know those things are hard to diagnose, but I was wondering if they had any specific issues that anyone else might have run into or if its just my bike. 20,000 miles on it now.

Thanks again

If the rattle goes away when the bike is warmed up it is a bad chain tensioner. These models are known for it. Terry
