Default Undertail pics for kokamo

Took these pics for Kokamo but figured they may help someone else!

I made this undertail out of a rubbermaid can LOL. I took the side panels off and used a piece of cardboard as a template. Then cut a piece out of the can and got it to fit the way I wanted, test fit the side panels, and once I was happy painted it black!! Works for me!

while I was at it LOL

OK i'll quit!!

Todd, thanks for that. I'm gonna make mine out of some 22 gauge steel since I'd get my a** reamed out by the ole lady if I ripped a giant hole in the side of the trash can.

Hey, can you get a shot of your bike from about 6 or 8 feet back looking at it from about tail-light height? Just kinda getting the idea of what it looks like from another drivers view.

Also, did you take off the entire plastic part....the big drop down piece? Or did you cut it up? If I remember right, the tail light lens is mounted to it.

Thanks again man, looks great!

I'm curious as well. Why did you take one mirror off?

djoe, sensei. I was walking by my bike in the garage one day and hung the right mirror in my clothes and broke the damn thing off. So I just use the left one!!!

kokamo, I did cut the whole plastic piece all the way up above the side panels. This actually leaves a hole near the taillight, but the undertail covers this.

600RR, I didnt have a black one! LOL

Hey Todd!!! Got mine done, but my "trash can plastic" is made out of 212 gauge steel sheet metal.

Here are some of the progress pics. I took a hack saw and a dremel with a side cutting drillbit and got after it. Trimmed it all up real nice, then made a template out of some cardboard. Traced it out onto some sheetmetal and cleaned it up nice. Then I had to bend it a little bit to conform to the factory plastic piece and then drill some holes to mount it. From there, I fabbed up some brackets for the license plate. Kinda cheesy welding job cause I have a "no-good-fer-shit" welder, but it got the job done. Then I painted it with some black primer. I haven't figured out what I'm gonna do for the plate light yet, but I do have the turn signal lights figured out. Gonna do what Pit did and mount them into the rear pass peg struts. Should look good when I'm done, so new pics when I'm done with that.

BTW....don't ask me why the "APR" tag and the "05 09" tag.....they don't match......I know, but I have no idea why the state gave it to me. They just said "use it"....so I did.

Later on,

Joe

Looks really good Joe. A heck of a lot better than the factory beaver tail they put on sportbikes!

Hey thanks Pit. The night "my car almost got stolen", I was at the local Autozone ricer isle, and picked up some of those cheap LED washer nozzles for my turn signals and an LED 7" license plate light. Came home and found that the LP light stood too tall on the mounts, so I had to make it fit on the inside. Took it all apart, trimmed up the LP light housing and drilled a bunch of big holes for the light to shine down onto the license plate. Turned out like this.......
