Since there are some folks that would find this handy I thought i'd take pictures during my front pad change I did today. Some peeps wont need this at all, and some will follow it step by step!!
First you should have something like this:
You need to loosen and remove these to bolts that hold the brake caliper to the fork tubes:
Once the bolts are removed you will be able to slide the caliper assembly back and off the rotor. You may have to adjust the angle to clear the wheel and rotor, but it should come off:
OK this is what you should have once you get the caliper away from the wheel:
See this pin in the end of the caliper! I has to be removed to remove the old pads:
There is a little "cover" bolt that requires a strait tip screwdriver to remove:
Once you remove this little bolt, you should see the top of the pin:
Removing this pin allows the pads to be removed from the caliper:
This is what you will have with the pads removed:
You can take some brake cleaner and clean the caliper at this point if you wanted.
You will put the new pads in the reverse way you took the old ones out.
Put the new pads into the slot/slide like this:
Then reinstall the pin:
Should look like this once the pads are in:
Reinstall the cove bolt:
Now reinstall the brake assembly back onto the rotor/fork. Just slide it over the rotor. If the pads are too close together take a strait srewdriver and gentle pry the pads away form each other, give you more room:
Now I like to use alittle blue locktite on my brake caliper bolts. Some dont but I do!:
Now tighten to a slight "snug" with a regular rachet. Then tighten it down with a torque wrench:
The reason "I" like to use a torque wrench and not just tighten it down with a rachet is because the bolts actually thread into the caliper bracket which is aluminum, and will strip EASY. My bike requires 22lb/ft Yours might be different. Refer to your manual!!
Here are your new pads installed!!!! Now just do the otherside!!! LOL
Your bikes setup may be alot different than mine, BUT the job is basically the same on every bike!!!
Also my old pads werent that bad at all, I changed them out for a set of HH pads that I ordered awhile ago and hadnt got around to putting them on!!!!
Hope this helps someone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
