2002 CBR 954 RR knocking noise

I'm about to trade my 1990 240sx for a 2002 954 RR. The only thing wrong with it is the owner said that it makes a knocking noise and it would need a rod bearing soon. I need to know what could actually be wrong with the bike and how much it would cost to fix. Any help is greatly appreciated.
