Default Shoes recommendation?

Hey guys,

I rode very briefly about 6 years ago (Ninja 250r), and this week just purchased an '04 CBR F4i. Even though I've ridden a bit before I feel like I'm a beginner all over again.

So anyway.. I'm wondering about what kind of shoes I should wear when I ride. I live in hot, sunny Florida. So I don't want boots, or anything big and bulky like that.

I want something sporty, but online I'm only finding 'racing boots'.

Can anyone recommend any brands that make riding shoes that basically look like running shoes?

Or, is is OK to ride with just running shoes? Most of the running shoes I'm finding these days have a soft or mesh/like top part (ie - where the toes are it's pretty soft/flexible). I don't know what that would be like.

I haven't ridden my CBR yet because I'm only getting it lowered tomorrow (I'm a 5'3 woman)

I do remember when I took my riding course 6 years ago that they said to wear good sturdy boots and not running shoes.... but I see everyone in south Florida wearing running shoes...

so anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Do I need something that protects the ankle? (would high-rise running shoes work?)

Thanks
Nathalie

Yes, something that has latches/straps would be perfect. Tennis shoes, basketball shoes, anything like that WILL comme off your foot in a get off!!! When I lowsided a few years back I lost, literally lost my left shoe. I had to ride home shifting shoeless!!! I know I tell you all this and I still wear tennis shoes when I ride. I need to get me a pair of boots, or atleast a good pair of riding shoes! But trust me from experience tennis shoes are NOT a good choice. Better than flipflops/sandals, but not to good!!

Loook at these

Alpine stars makes a shoe. But if I were you Id look into a pair of Icon boots. They make a hightop boot that is very tough, covers your ankles, and there not too hot. By the way what part of Fla are you from? Im in the St. petersburg area.

I have boots currently, but my fiancee has a pair of those Icon high top style boots that djoe81 is talking about.... He LOVES them. He has a tendency to wear them even when he's not riding. I am actually going to get the female type here pretty soon. They look bulky, but they feel light and more like a regular shoe, and they have the protection you need. That's my two cents!

Oh, and I think they are called Super Duty II. The Chukka's are okay too.

I wear the ICON Super Duty boots for prolly 4 or 5 years. they have worn very well and are niceto ride in. My girl has the ICON Super Duty II boots and she likes them also, both offer decent protection... but much better then tennis shoes

The temp at your location should have no bearing on what footwear to use while riding. And who cares what everybody is wearing in FL, it's known as the damn squid capitol of the nation, please don't be one too. Get boots, some of which come peforated to allow wind to blow through them to some extent. If you go down with sneakers, as mentioned before, they will come off your feet. A link to what your feet could look like...http://niketalk.yuku.com/topic/54494...NG.html?page=1

and a nice parting picture...
