Default 16,000 Mile valve adjustment

Anyone went through this before? If so, How much did it end up costing you. I think I am correct that they have to at least check the valves at 16,000 which I'm sure most of the time they see they do need some adjustments. I was going to do it myself to save some money but I'm sure it's a real biatch to get to the valves. Once you do get there is there also some sort of special tool they use?
