Default first check up on bike

check this out ladies and gentlemen,

i took my bike in for its 600 mile check up yesterday, and after i got it back 3 hours later i see a whole bunch of smoke coming from the back of my bike. so i pulled over and looked under my bike and behold, no oil plug, so my oil was just draining out! the oil had completely covered my rear tire, i do not know how i did not spin out, and was shooting up at my exhaust causing the smoke. luckily i have family with towing gear, because nobody tows motorcycles in sacramento, CA. the shop is going to look over my entire bike and engine, and then clean it and replace the rear tire. do you guys think i should ask for more from the shop? because i could have totaled my bike and myself because of there mistake, i was thinking reimbursing me the price of my tune up and a gift card.

so make sure you check your oil plug after your tune ups, because you do not know what dumb ass is fixing your bike

that's honda techs for ya!!! I would tell em NEW BIKE OR MOTOR!!! don't budge!!!

there's not tellin what kinda damage was done internally running w/ no oil?? ( especially during the 600 mile break in period) I'm sure they'll put the plug in and fill her up and tell ya "oh it's fine"

Don't take no shit!! I would call Honda corprate and let them know and then see what they say before you even settle w/the dealership! Oh and if ya talk to the dealership first let it slip that you are gonna call Honda corprate,,,let em sweat and maybe they'll just go ahead and hook ya up???

i wouldnt take the bike back. take it in there and tell them you want a new bike at no charge for their mess up. there is no telling what kind of damage could have been done to the motor and i wouldnt risk it with a new bike. they would be giving me a new bike or a refund on my purchase.

WOW!!! thats exactly why I do ALL my maintainance or fixes!!! That sucks bro. I agree with everyone else I would definately ask for a new bike. Oil is in a engine for a reason, ANY SECOND running without it causes damage no doubt!!!

the tech who was working on it was fired cuz he did the same thing to an ATV.

just to clear up my story i was riding for a while with the plug in, and then it eventually fell out, and once it fell out my tire was throwing the oil at my exhaust causing the smoke, so i saw that immediately and pulled over and the oil was draining out for a while after i pulled over. so from the point it started draining to me pulling over and turning off my bike was about 30 seconds. do you really think an engine would be hurt that quickly? plenty of oil was coming out after i pulled over and shut off my engine.

thanks for your responses!

Its hard to say for sure, but if I had the slightest doubt in my mine that saomething was hurt, i'd get a new bike! Odds are if it was just that short of time, and oil was still dumping out of it after you stopped then is probably ok. I would get free life service (ie...valve adjustments stuff in that nature) or something for it though!!!

it almost sounds deliberate...either the plug is snug or its not in at all..
Have you ever put in a plug and just walked away without snugging it with a wrench?? Maybe he had a beef with the shop or something and was gonna try to "show" them by sabatoge....It's unheard of for a plug to just fall out!! something fishy there...

i agree drew, he would of had to get the plug tight enough to not leak oil while it was just sitting there other wise someone else at the shop might of caught it. but once you get out on the the road the vibration and the bumbs in the road cause it to rotate and loosen up till it would fall out.

if it would have been me and i seen that it was pouring oil out of it i would have stopped and let it run till the engine seized up to guarantee i was gettin a new bike from the shop.

do it yourself, dont take it anywhere. save the money buy a manual and some beer and a new craftsman set. It will be so much more rewarding.

To all the people who dont know how to work on things, take good detailed pics and buy a manual. It is soooooooooo easy.
