Holy SH*T
Took my 02 F4i out and really gave it hell for the first time since i bought it about 2 months ago. It got a K&N filter, Jardine RT one slip on, and a Power Commander III. Anyhoo, holy shit that thing surprised the hell outta me when i got up past 2/3 throttle. DAMN its fast. i had a 2000 F4 that had a two brothers slip on and was jetted but that thing couldnt shake a stick at the F4i. im planning on frequenting the strip this summer and having some more fun blasting it down the 1/4. considering ive never drag raced a street bike (not unfamilier from riding balls out tho...i raced dirt bikes for a few years, i know theyre different but i do no how to handle a motorcycle) would it be a long shot to hope for low 11s with some practice?

Agreed! I'm gonna give my 929 a go at the 1/8th mile track here this summer, probably just a few runs to see what it can do..hardest part is gonna be the launch, because its not stretched, and is built, it should just freakin jump outta the box. I'm hoping for mid 6's, which would put me in the low 10's high 9's for the 1/4.

I may just do that man. Did you get out and ride this weekend? The wife and I did a little..it being easter weekend and all, we got about 150 miles in yesterday..took some new roads closer to home. took 70s from Nashville to Peagram, then 249 to 49 back to 249 and then to 112, it was a fun ride. We took it pretty easy for the most part, 70mph or so most of the time, could've gone alot faster, the roads weren't as curvy as we like. Next weekend, if the weather is good, it'll be up to hwy 85 with a group of guys we ride alot with. Last time we went, had 10 sportbikes in our little group. The hwy 85 ride is kinda short, but we do it a couple of times..two switchback corners on the route are a blast, so we usually do them at least twice in both directions. heheh. talkin 20 mph, knee draggin corners. They are SHARP. The road is way out in the boonies, so it sees very little traffic. In fact, I've been on that stretch of road about a dozen times, and have never run across another car, or rider for that matter. We find these cool roads to ride, with no one on em..of course, gettin there may take an hour or so..but well worth it!

Since I've never really drag raced a sport bike, I'm gonna try and get some launch practice in at a parking lot I know, thats huge. Gonna talk to some other guys too about how to keep the front end firmly planted on the ground. I'm down one tooth in the front, and had thought about changing the rear sprocket before I went to the strip. I'm thinking I'll be into third gear just about at the end of an 8th mile and doin around 120 mph or so? maybe? probably gonna be less than that..closer to 100...any tips from the drag racing crowd out there?
I hear about "strapping" the front end down all the time...I'm confused, how does that help keep the front end on the ground?

To the O.P., my mostly stock '93 F2 runs 11.20s in the 1/4 and 7.20s in the 1/8, you've got more power, if you learn to launch, you should run some mid to low 11s, possibly some high 10s if you're a lightweight like me (145 lbs.) I'd try launching at about 5000 at the track, (maybe 3500~4000 in a parking lot) and work up from there. I launch at 7000, but slip the clutch enough to keep revs up and the front end about 3" in the air, as soon as I start letting the clutch out, I go WOT.
fireblade929 , the strap eliminates your suspended front end travel, it will help you get used to launching consistently, the bike doesn't get any momentum to bounce the tire up when it hits the end of the suspension travel if there isn't any. I have one on my F2 and can't really tell that much difference whether I use it or not now, but I drag race at least once a month. I'd suggest maybe starting at 3000~3500 for you, and working your way up to what works best for ya from there, you've got more torque and probably better traction too. Also, both of you be very aware that your bike will hook WAY better at the track than it does on the street, so be more cautious your first launch or two at the track. Your first clue will be when the track tries to make you step out of your shoes,
VHT is some badass stuff,

yea im a pretty small guy (130 lbs) so the bike doesnt got a whole lot of weight to drag with it down the track. i know the launch is the most important part of the run and definately the hardest to master. how hard should i slip the clutch? i dont wanna fry my clutch but i dont wanna flip the bike either

Launching on the street ain't nothing like launching at the track. That VHT on the line is some wicked stuff. It will literally try to take your shoes off. My first launch at the track, I launched like I would on the street, and the nose of the bike shot skyward, and I puckered up big time. Bet i looked like a real goof out there. I quickly began learning the art of slipping the clutch. Still not mastered it yet. Good luck guys, and 929, bring that bad boy up to Bowling Green and run the 1/4 at Beech Bend sometime.

Slip it as much as you have to to keep the front end down. I plan to launch even harder a few times to see how that works out, like maybe 9 or 10 K. These Honda clutches are TOUGH.
