Its easy. Make sure when you buy the new cover that it comes with a new gasket also. There are only a few bolts to take the cover off. Then you have to pull it (which may be hard because it is a big ass magnet) Then unbolt the stator from the cover, bolt the stator to the new cover, reinstall it on the bike. When you take the cover off you'll drip some oil, so remember to check the level after your done.

"I" would drain alittle oil myself, just so the is no possibilty there can be a mess. If your using a rear stand, the bike will be strait up and down, you will probably be ok, like wannaride said!! But if your on the side stand be careful, more oil is in there than you will think!!!
Also use some atv black sylicone on the rubber gasket for the wires, just to be safe. Mine has never leaked since I did that!!!

go to autozone and buy goop 1 minute gasket maker. It comes in a little cheeze whiz can and will come in handy many times. put it on very thin on the cover wait a couple minutes and you will have a gasket, it is transmission oil resistant so your bikes oil will not leak through it. make sure to let it set up first so you dont squeeze excess into the motor. doesnt take alot since that cover cranks on pretty tight. i did mine that way and hasnt leaked yet. going on over 6k miles with it like that. did your take it apart yet, if not there is a trick to taking cover off and putting it on. you have to turn the shifter knob clockwise while pulling it off to disengage the lever under the cover from the knob. Probably made no sense what i just said, but if your having a problem. pm me and I will get you my number and i can help you over the phone.

Also, those stator cover bolts need to be torqued to spec. Make sure you know what the requirements are for your bike.

YES LISTEN to J. I tightened a stator cover on my old bike, and "tink" I overtightened the bolt and it cracked the cover right beside the bolt. Had to order a new one! BE Carefull!!!
