potential dead battery
I have a 2006 600F4i. I am thinking the battery needs replaced, but wanted to ask around first.
walking up to the bike, turn the key and turn off the killswitch and nothing happens. Hook battery up to charger and gauges do their little dance. Go to start bike, turns but it will not start. Let it charge about 15 minutes and try again, this time starts for about 2 seconds and dies. I let it charge for 2 hours this time and same thing happens. disconnect the charger and no power is going anywhere, even the clock shuts off.
my first thought is that battery is not holding a charge and needs replaced. This is my first bike so I would prefer to hear from the wiser rather than swiping the CC blindly. Thanks fellas

once it starts it no longer needs the battery to run. sounds like you have problem with the charging system of the bike, and it might need a new battery also

Sound like
#1 the battery is toast
#2 Your voltage regulator is toast
Did this bike sit all winter, or did this "just" happen??

That'll do it. Im leaning more towards a dead battery in that case. I would replace that battery and spend a little extra coin on a battery tender. Those things are life savers.

**update**
so I bought a new battery yesterday and the bike started right up, revved for a few minutes to make sure everything sounded ok. Let is sit at idle and it stalled out. I figure get some fresh gas and fuel injector cleaner.
What really boggled my mind though, it didn't start, like there wasn't enough juice to start it up??? I hook it up to the charger and started right up. I kept the RPMs above 1000 and was able to ride it around for a few minutes and it was sitting at about 5-700 RPMs idling. Is that normal idle?
To test it I turned it off to see if it would start on its own and didn't work.
thoughts?

im pretty much at a loss, this sounds electrical though. 5-700 rpm is a bit low for a sportbike engine to idle, you might want to turn that up a few. 1k is about where you want it to idle. i think its funny that my bike idles higher than the start of the powerband in my diesel... anyways not the point.
if you can, try testing the regulator and if it has a resistor check that, cause that sounds like an issue my truck had (sad, but same fuel injection system)
hope this helps in some small way... i dont know nearly enough about the newer bikes.

Thats whats wrong bro. Turn your idle up to about 1300 or so. A bikes charging system willnot do its job at low (under 1000rpms) rpms. It has to be spinning above 1000 or so to be effieciently charging. Turn up that idle, its a little know on the left side just inside the fairing!!!

on mine there is just a knob that you turn, no taking off fairings or anything. while sitting on it, it is on the left hand side right about under where your knee would be. i run my idle at about 1500. i had heard that they dont actuality start to charge untill they get up to around 3000. not sure if that is true or not.
