Default '02 F4i Fuel Reserve Indicator

When I bought the bike from my friend (original owner and put only 5.6k miles on it) he said that once the reserve indicator showed up on the display I'd have roughly eighty to a hundred miles left. Riding in to work last night I noticed the indicator show up and by the time I got to work all four blocks were blinking! The ride was maybe twenty miles total.

From what I've managed to gather on the internet, the '02's tank is a little less than 5 gallons with no seperate reserve, so I'm wondering a couple things. First, roughly how much fuel is left when the four solid blocks of the initial reserve indicator pop up? And second, when all four blocks are blinking, how long do I have to get fuel before I have to walk my bike to the next pump?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Well speaking from experience on my 600rr. When your reserve indicator shows up you have about 25-50 miles of riding left depending on how hard you are riding the bike. I don't know exactly how much fuel that leaves you with, but I would guess anywhere from .25 to .50 of a gallon.

I wouldnt use the 80-100 mile estimate for sure. Theres no way theres that much gas left. I agree with Shorty, MAYBE 35-45 miles left. I wouldnt push past 20 or so if it was me!

agree with the above, if you try to go more then 30 miles after it comes on your just asking for trouble.

So the manual says I've got around a 4.8 gallon tank, and with the fuel reserve completely blinking, it only took 4.1 gallons of fuel. I'm a little scared to run it dry just to see how long I have once the reserve indicator first shows up, but at least I think I have a few miles before my bike dries up.

20 miles is prolly a comfy estimate on reserve. the F4i lights up a series of LCD bars on the dash and they disappear as the reserve runs out. I have pushed the last blinking bar to 7 or 8 miles and didnt' run out, but i dont remember how much fuel the bike took when filling up to know how much was left in the tank
