HELP!!! CBR dead and I have no idea why?!?!
Ok guys I'm new to CBR's new to bikes, just plain new,
I bought a CBR600F2 1992 and it had a problem. It would start and run fine but it wouldn't ideal. Once i drove it, it would surge then died and surge then die over and over again {vroom putt vroom putt vroom putt vroom putt} while driving down the road. I figured it was the carbs. So i pulled the bike apart and cleaned the cars realy well, even the small jets. After putting the bike back together now it will not start at all, it tried once and then died, and wouldn't start again. I also noticed a small vacuum port open at the base of the secound most carb in from the right. It has no line to it or any where it should go? also the sub air cleaner box deal isn't tight does that matter?
What can I do?
where should I start?
I just want to ride my bike.
I want to cry.....

First off, you need to make sure you have the three basics.....spark, air and fuel.
You can eliminate air because it's free....unless there is an internal problem like valves or a timing chain issue
You then need to check for spark. Pull a spark plug, put it in the boot and lay the spark plug on a metal part of the frame or engine....turn the motor over and verify it has spark. If you have spark, keep reading.
You then need to check for fuel. If you have too much, it won't run at all or won't run correctly. If you have too little, again, it won't run at all, or it won't run correctly.
To me, you have one of two problems.....
One, you don't have spark....or spark at the correct time. Did you pull the little wires off of the coils? If you did, did you make sure they are back on the coil they originally came off of? How about the plug wires? Are they back on the correct cylinder? Verify this before you go any further.
Two, if you have too much fuel (flooded), open the throttle WIDE OPEN while you are cranking. If it's flooded, it will give it lots of air and eventually make the rich condition go away. When it starts, let off....don't blow it up. If it's lean (not enough fuel) you can spray some carburetor cleaner into the carbs and see if it will fire up momentarily. If it fires up, you have a fuel pump or fuel filter problem. Verify you have fuel before you take the carbs back off.
Hope this helps man,
Joe

this will sound like a REALLY dumb question, but did you check that theres fuel in the tank?
to find out if you've got fuel in the carbs, put a tube on the little nipple on the bottom(real technical I know) and open the screw next to it. you SHOULD see fuel come out of that. if no, check your fuel pump to verify it actually pumps gas.

Actually it does. My F1 "had" a fuel pump until it went south and I made it gravity fed. Runs great. If you did a lot of hard riding or drove steep inclines, it might starve a little without the pump, but I've had no issues. I often "chase" a friend on an '06 ZX10R Ninja through the twisties with no problems, except he smokes my rear on the straights. The F2 pumps will actually work on F1 I've heard. Sorry, random944. This probably didn't help you at all, but you do have (or did have) a fuel pump. Hope you get her figured out. I know not being able to ride is torture on a nice summer day. Check for air/fuel/spark like Kokamo said. I'd guess that since you monkeyed with the carbs and then it would not start at all, you may have a fuel related problem. Not knowing what else you may have disassembled in the process, hard to say. Good luck.

huh. thats really weird. I would have thought they'd keep the fuel pump considering they had them on the Hurricane model, and the F3 and newer.

there seems to be a diaphram in the petcock that works like a fuel pump
thats why it has the vacume line coming from the engine to it
just my thoughts
