Default '93 f2 will ONLY start in neutral!

I just purchased a 1993 CBR600f2. The bike runs mint, but the only issue I am having is that will only start in neutral. Being a new rider, it makes me a little nervous since if i stall out then i have to get the make back in the neutral then back into gear. I don't know if this is something that can be easily fixed, but I can't imagine this is normal and/or safe.

Let me know if I can fix this! Thanks!!!

PS. The kick stand is up and the clutch is in when trying to start while in gear.

i dunno bro, maybe the sensor in the clutch is going bad. My bike doesnt even try to turn over in gear if clutch is not pulled. myabe there is a sensor in there that makes this happen.

yep, true story. you could check the connections to the switch on your clutch that tells the bike the clutch is pulled in, if theres a wire off itll think the clutch is never disengaged, id say check that out, otherwise all the best advice has already been given.
